My Portfolio- Built with WordPress and Elementor
The Overview
The Challenge
My old page was created a few years ago when I was first starting my design career. Not only did it need a refresh, but it needed refinement and consistency in my branding. My previous page was also not made was mobile responsiveness in mind- another thing I would have to redesign. Below is a photo of the old homepage on canva.
The Process
I had very little experience when I started with my Canva site. My original art page was way too busy with too much text right in the visitors face. The design also made it hard to add new projects and would've been very hard to translate to mobile. As I was teaching myself about hosting, best building practices in WordPress and Elementor, and how to use plugins, I was also lightly redesigning layouts.
Similarly, my about me page was too wordy and too hard to move into mobile with the original layout. I kept a similar design, but added a feature that lets you click on boxes that pull up relevant text. This works much better on mobile as it eliminates having to move around bulky text boxes.
The Product
After a few months and a lot of learning later, I finally got my new portfolio in its first stage of completeness. While it will always grow and change as my career does, I'm very proud of the product I was able to make on my own. I designed this page with UI/UX principles in mind, with a focus on aesthetic presentation, page modularity, and responsiveness.
Some tools I also used to create assets for this page include:
- Illustrator
- Photoshop
- Firefly
- Canva
